The PA setup for the music festival in Cancun

CANCUN, Mexico -- Although tensions heated up during the daytime sessions of the recent 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, UN delegates from more than 30 countries, along with the general public, were able to chill out at the free nightly "Singing for the Planet" outdoor music festival staged at Villa de Cambio Climatico (Climate Change Village).

To accommodate the daily crowds of more than 10,000 visitors from November 27 through December 11, Mexico City-based production company CREA supplied a full L-ACOUSTICS loudspeaker system comprised of 48 V-DOSC and 21 dV-DOSC elements, plus 32 SB28 sub enclosures, collectively powered by a total of 44 LA8 amplified controllers.

Independent System/FOH Engineer Alex Soto provided for the specification for the festival. "V-DOSC was chosen for its exceptional sound quality and power," he says. "I set up the system using SOUNDVISION, of course, and it performed just as the software predicted. Hitting 122 dB SPL at our mix position 170 feet out from the stage, everyone was extremely impressed with the sound and power.

"With more than 40 artists and bands of different genres performing throughout this internationally-significant festival, the L-ACOUSTICS systems were also selected for their rider acceptability," Soto adds. "With V-DOSC, there's no risk -- no one refuses to work on it -- and it's a system guaranteed to please everyone. I've been in love with V-DOSC for ten years now, and today I'm still falling in love with L-ACOUSTICS' new products."

The "Singing for the Planet" system featured left and right main arrays comprised of 15 V-DOSC plus three dV-DOSC down-fills, while three columns of three dV-DOSC each were deployed for front-fill. Ample out-fill coverage was achieved via far left and right hangs of nine V-DOSC plus three dV-DOSC, using an L-R swap configuration, and subs consisted of 16 SB28 per side. All systems were powered by LA8 amplified controllers housed in LA-RAKs.

In addition to Soto, technical crew members for the event included Fernando Robredo (CREA production director), Saul Rodriguez (CREA technical director), Jaime Laval (stage manager) Fer Guzman (monitor engineer), Misael Garcia (RF tech), and Paco Carmona (FOH assistant). "Not only does CREA have great L-ACOUSTICS gear, but they also have a terrific crew," notes Soto. "Their professionalism and positive attitude unquestionably help explain why they are one of Mexico's top production companies."
