Robert Juliat Super Korrigan Followspots Chosen For New Sight & Sound Theater In Branson, Missouri

JuliatSight & Sound Theatres has selected ten Robert Juliat Super Korrigan followspots for its new venue in Branson, Missouri. A Christian theater company based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Sight & Sound Theatres(tm) is well known for its multimedia stage productions with Biblical themes.

"We brought in Juliat's Super Korrigans plus followspots from another manufacturer for a shootout on our main stage," says Lighting Designer Joe Basinger. "One of my goals was to get better color temperature and gain than other followspots we have used. Our distances are half-way between long throw and really long throw, so we needed a happy medium. With Robert Juliat's Super Korrigan, gain and color temperature are far superior to the other followspots we've seen."

The Super Korrigan is a 1200w HMI followspot with manual or DMX dimmer. It has a zoom range of 7-14 degrees with sharp-edge projection at all beam angles, and its double condenser optics maximizes light output and provides an extremely flat beam.

In addition, the followspot features a large, heat-resistant wraparound handle, which makes operation easy in whatever position the operator prefers. Fingertip control of the mechanical dimmer shutter enables smooth dimming with no black spot. And the hot restrike lamp minimizes delays in firing up the fixture in the event of a power failure.

Basinger deploys the lights, purchased through PRG Dallas, for any new production rotated into the theater. "The first show to feature the Super Korrigans is our current production, 'Noah, the Musical' and they're working great," he says. "The dousers are a lot smoother, boom changing is a lot cleaner and the operators can position themselves a lot easier. We had one challenge: When we were designing the sight lines in the venue we missed a major I-beam going through the seating area. So we've designed a custom chair for our followspot operator which can be lowered to enable the spot to shoot under the beam."

The theater has also mounted three Super Korrigans onto a unique trolley system so they can travel the length of a 115-foot long upstage followspot truss.

Next up for the Branson theater is Sight & Sound's traditional "The Miracle of Christmas" show. "We'll be using the Super Korrigans only. We don't want to use anything else," Basinger concludes.
