‘The RevEAL Profile Junior Caught My Eye at LDI’

Prism Projection’s recently introduced RevEAL Profile Junior, a compact version of its industry award-winning RevEAL Profile LED luminaire offers a remarkable 10,000 lumens and equally impressive optics. Its performance sets a new standard for LED ellipsoidals. In an increasingly confusing space and as the number of LED profiles on the market increases direct hands-on comparisons is the best way to ensure that you are getting the tool you need with the features and output you expect. Seeing is Believing. prism-profile-junior-image-bw.jpg

The Profile Junior is a compact 10,000 lumen LED profile spot; in fact its size and weight are similar to conventional tungsten-sourced ellipsoidals, yet its output exceeds conventional 575W ellipsoidals. This new compact design of the Profile Junior is offered in three versions; a tunable 2,800-6,500K, 3200K and 5600K white light. As with all Prism LED products, the Prism Junior utilizes the patented TrueSource® technology along with its advanced thermal management system.

The Profile Junior, along with the original Profile, is ready right now for use in a wide range of applications including long throw front of house lighting positions where other LED profiles fall far short. An exceptionally powerful instrument in a compact form factor, the Profile Junior should be in strong considerations when looking to add LED luminaires to your inventory.

“The RevEAL Profile Junior caught my eye at LDI; it is just what we’re looking for to be a workhorse unit in our new black box space,” explains Doug Witney, Director of Production Services at the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech. "I think that out of all the LED ellipsoidal-style units that are coming onto the market currently, this one has the best characteristics in terms of emulating a traditional Source Four. I think that the Prism approach of going with powerful single source is optically the best choice; it actually gives you what you’re looking for with a lens system. The Profile Junior is easily operating optically more like what you would desire than the other LED units that are on the market which are using either multiple LEDs or multiple fields. The characteristics that you want from a light don’t change just because your source type is changing.”

The Prism Profile Junior utilizes existing standard ETC Source Four® lens tubes matched with Prism's high output performance. It doesn’t require the ETC Extended Definition Lens Tubes (EDLT) to achieve a high output.

Witney, who arranged to have a demonstration of the Profile Junior at his school so he could run it through its paces, describes a few of his observations. “The Profile Junior unit comes closest to offering the characteristic of a traditional ellipsoidal but really surpassing it in terms of the quality of the edges of images, he comments. “When you have a gobo in, or you’re shuttering, you want sharp focus; the Profile Junior’s focus is sharper. Gobos with text look pretty amazing; it’s so crisp. Another thing that stood out was the much-reduced chromatic aberration; that was really impressive. We also liked the flatness of the field and the nice fall off.”

The Profile Junior can be adjusted from a hard to soft edge and works with fixed or zoom lens systems. It features include four shutters arranged in a tri-plane for complex shutter cuts; a B-sized pattern holder; and can be controlled via DMX, Art-Net, or locally on the LCD panel on the unit. Like the original Prism Profile, the Profile Junior employs Prism’s TrueSource real-time optical feedback technology, which produces amazingly pure, consistent white light with a color rendering index greater than 93. It also incorporates an adjustable green/magenta correction that studio lighting designers rely on for matching with other sources.

Prism’s patented TrueSource optical and color management technology with advanced algorithms and a real-time optical feedback sensor unlocks the potential of LED illumination through constant monitoring of light output, ensures precise and accurate color. Prism’s technology overcomes the biggest obstacles to true consistent color from LEDs with the use of real-time color calibration. TrueSource assures color consistency by utilizing active live color metering, achieves a full spectral response by using carefully selected multiple primary emitters, and provides a consistent flat field with next generation optics and reflector systems. TrueSource, incorporated in all RevEAL products, produces amazingly consistent colors between instruments and over the life of the LEDs. All RevEAL luminaires produce a single source beam, which eliminates color separation and unpleasing striations.

With the Profile Junior luminaire, Prism Projection has brought to market the true state-of-the-art LED lighting instrument that responds to the needs of designers for higher output while also advancing the applications of LED technology. ‘Seeing is Believing’, so be sure to arrange a demonstration and a shoot-out of the Profile Junior to see the results for yourself.
