Mirkin's company, ESM Productions, teamed with Clyve and Set Designer Rene Lagler to light the newly expanded Pennsylvania Convention Center. The space in use was a 37,500 square foot lobby where house lighting was not an option.
Adding to the challenge Clyve, Lagler, and Producer Scott Mirkin were expected to create a multi-functional stage design to support dance and live musical performances from the likes of Philadelphia's own “The Roots”.
Some of Clyve's gear outside the stage was used for more than just providing light.
“In addition to the stage design we needed to create a front of house position that was as decorative as it was functional, as that area was the first thing patrons saw as they entered the venue. We also incorporated truss verticals throughout the venue to highlight local restaurants being featured in the venue. With toners and proper placement designs, the verticals themselves acted as part of the décor as well,” said Clyve.
Clyve selected a wide variety of LEDs and moving lights from 4Wall to accomplish his task, including Color Kinetics ColorBlast and ColorBlaze as well as Martin Mac 301 LEDs and an assortment of Vari*Lite fixtures.
The result was a successful celebration and a venue deemed to have “fantastic décor and lighting” and “carefully placed lighting” according to local media critics from The Philly Post and Kyodaiko.
