Pete's Big TVs on BET Hip Hop Awards

Pete Pete's Big TVs supplied video production support for this year's BET 2011 Hip Hop Awards. The Atlanta (GA) Civic Center was transformed for the Oct. 1 live production, which aired Oct. 11 and 13 on the BET Network.

Main visual elements of the set - designed by Alana Billingsley - included a Lighthouse R7 LED screen - 15x20 feet - along with two Barco SLM R12 projectors. Pete's Big TVs crew included Matt Ellar, John Ellar and Steve Edwards, with Guy Benjamin overseeing the team.

The set may have bore some resemblance from last year's event.

“This year's show re-used some of the set and structure pieces from last year's show,” Benjamin explained. “Specific pieces were built to hold the Lighthouse R7 LED screens, so it made sense to use the same screen again this year.”

Performances from big names in hip hop entertained in between award acceptances and video replays.

Although Pete's Big TVs works on a number of BET's productions - including the upcoming “Black Girls Rock” event - this is the second year that they have been involved in this annual awards show.
