No ‘Bull' When It Comes to Using Yamaha PM5D

robert-bull-martina-mcbride-low.jpgBUENA PARK, Calif.—Monitor Engineer Robert Bull is known for mixing iconic artists such as Martina McBride and Michael McDonald as well as television hits such as “Nashville Star.” Bull has mixed on it all, both analog and digital. But, when it comes to digital, he prefers the Yamaha PM5D.

“I am a diehard analog guy, but there are times when analog is just not feasible, states Bull. “When I use a digital console, I need to have confidence in the gear, which is why I always request a PM5D. I need to get around on the console very quickly in a manner that works for me, and the Yamaha PM5D allows me to do that by having so much of where I need to get to on the mixing surface, that I don't have to take my eyes off of the stage.”

Bull said that whether doing fly dates or TV shows, the PM5D's built-in effects and flexibility of putting things where he needs them via the user definable keys enables him to walk right up to the console and start mixing, providing the confidence that when a scene is recalled, it is right where he left it. “It helps an old analog brain get the job done, notes Bull, and it doesn't get any better than that.”
