Light Plot Deconstructed, Now Available from Nemetschek North America

Columbia, Maryland (May 26, 2009)—Nemetschek North America is now offering Light Plot Deconstructed, a great companion guide for anyone seeking to learn the fundamentals of lighting design with Vectorworks® Spotlight. The tutorial is also the debut work of Gregg Hillmar, an accomplished scenic and lighting designer, and an experienced Vectorworks user.

"This book sort of grew into existence," says Hillmar, who, with several decades of professional theater design work under his belt, is also a frequent speaker on drafting and theater design for both new and experienced lighting designers. Hillmar teaches theater tech classes at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. "The book is a combination of everything I do: professional lighting design, teaching, and speaking," he adds.

Hillmar believes that college students and emerging professionals will find the book particularly useful. "I wrote the book in a conversational style, taking someone through the process of creating a light plot," he says. Experienced lighting professionals and Vectorworks users will also benefit from being inside the mind of another professional approaching and solving problems in constructing a light plot.

While Light Plot Deconstructed was written with Vectorworks Spotlight 2009 in mind, lighting designers using any version of the software will find value. For those wanting a deeper learning experience, several PDF files mentioned in the book and the main demonstration file are found at www.lightplotdeconstructed.com

Light Plot Deconstructed is now available for order www.vectorworks.net/training/guides.php and retails for $40 plus shipping and handling.

Greg Hillmar is a scenic and lighting designer based in Richmond, Va. His work has been seen at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago; Manhattan Theatre Club in NYC; Maryland Arts Festival in Baltimore; First Night Annapolis; Riverside Center in Fredricksburg, Virginia; the Capitol Ballet at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.; and many others.
