Inline® Stage Equipment Installed at new Alabama School of Fine Arts Theater

Texas Scenic Company (TSC) has completed installation of stage equipment for the new Dorothy Jemison Day Theater at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama.

The new facility was designed by Birmingham's Live Design Group working with B.L. Harbert International, Acoustic Dimensions of New York and Theatre Projects Consultants of Connecticut. TSC supplied the stage equipment.

The new 500-seat theater was designed to host theatrical, dance, instrumental and choral music performances. The $8.5 million project features a 40-by-80-foot stage, a 50-musician orchestra pit and the latest in technical and acoustical technology. The architects at Live Design Group noted challenges encountered and overcome in the design process including space limitations of the site and acoustical challenges posed by airplanes and freeway traffic.

TSC manufactured and installed 31 sets of Inline® counterweight rigging and a complete package of stage curtains as well as acoustical curtains installed on H&H tracks. The lighting system supplied by TSC included ETC Source 4 fixtures and Lycian Super Arc spotlights. TSC also installed the Gala pit lift.

The new theater plays a significant role in the Birmingham arts community by filling a gap in the city's available facilities between small 200-seat venues and the larger spaces. It also part of the developing downtown arts and entertainment district.
