The New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC) is pleased to announce the long-awaited results for our 10th Annual NYC Student Lighting Competition, with an exciting evening that aptly features a keynote address from Charles G. Stone II, IALD, IES, PLDA, LC, LEED AP.
Charles G. Stone received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1976 with a Certificate from the Program in Theater and Dance for Lighting Design. Inspired by his early work in theater lighting, along with his avid interests in the arts, Charles began his career as an architectural lighting designer. Charles joined Fisher Marantz Stone (FMS) in 1983 and became President in 2003.
FMS is a 25 person lighting design studio located in the Flatiron District in Manhattan which has designed lighting for over 3500 projects worldwide including concert halls, monuments, academic buildings, airports, convention centers, museums, hotels, theme parks, corporate headquarters, commercial developments, and residences. Charles has designed award winning and well known projects such as Carnegie Hall, the Washington Monument, American Museum of Natural History - Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City, and the new Hong Kong Airport.
His passion and experience in lighting design has also led him to traverse the globe, speaking at various conferences and universities including AIA lectures, design symposiums in Europe and recently, The Feltman Lecture at Cooper Union in New York City. Charles is Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions as well as a LEED Accredited Professional. In addition, he is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, the Professional Lighting Designers Association and was President of the International Association of Lighting Designers from 2004-2005.
