Dowlen Sound and Meyer Sound MILO Soar at Denver's Mile High Music Festival

Denver's Mile High Music Festival was arguably one of the high points of this year's summer concert season. The two-day event, held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, featured more than 44 acts on five stages, including headliners Dave Matthews Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and John Mayer.

Denver-based Dowlen Sound provided the audio for the three largest stages, including a massive Meyer Sound system for the headliners' SanDisk stage.

The sound systems were designed by Bret Dowlen and Eric Satre. As Satre reports, the MILO® arrays really delivered, even in the face of challenging weather conditions. “We had 104 degrees with about nine percent humidity,” says Satre. “With most line arrays the sound just hits a certain point and dies. But with the MILO rig and the Galileos, it wasn't even a minor issue.”

The main system featured two hangs of 16 MILO® and two MILO 120 line array loudspeakers each, along with two delay hangs of eight MILO and one MILO 120 each, and four ground-stacked towers, each with four more MILO boxes. Thirty two of Dowlen's own custom dual 18-inch subwoofers were augmented by 12 700-HP subwoofers arranged in cardioid pairs. Four MSL-4 loudspeakers per side covered frontfill duties, while six UPA-1P loudspeakers served the VIP area. A Galileoâ„¢ loudspeaker management system with three Galileo 616 units handled system drive and processing.

For Dowlen Sound, the MILO rig is crucial to providing the best sound available, a commitment that the company will not compromise. “Denver is sometimes low on people's radar, since we're typically a mid-point rather than a place where tours kick off,” says Satre. “But we always strive to deliver the sound quality to rival any of the major touring companies, and Meyer Sound enables us to do that. The power and performance of the MILO is unbeatable, and with our busy summer season, the dependability factor is just as important.”
