Coemar Infinity Spot S, Wash XL Lights Lock It Down For Kanye West On VH1 Storytellers

KanyeAs top recording artist Kanye West boldly reflected on fragments of his life and career for VH1 Storytellers recently, Coemar Infinity Spot S and Wash XL lights touched the sky with a power and vibrancy only West could match.

Only Coemar Infinitys (and LED's) could play upon such bountiful footage as open flames and riveting ribbons, and not get lost in his captivating stories so eloquently told. "Kanye's a character," notes VH1 Storytellers lighting designer Tom Kenny. "He's such a visual artist, and he just loved the lighting and set for this show."

Kenny and crew worked very closely with West's own lighting designer, Martin Philips, as well as set designer Es Devlin. "Over many phone calls and chats," he says, "Martin gave us lots of input. And so I lit it very dramatically for TV, along with what he and Kanye had wanted."

Thus, at Sony Pictures Studios in L.A., what felt like work on an art installation to Kenny, resulted in a visually impactful fantasy.

"We used a lot of Coemar Infinitys and LED's," he recalls. With the Infinity Wash XLs as the main workhorses of the show, "we also had the Coemar Infinity Spot lights dotted around the room. They're very punchy, with great beams."

Coemar's Infinity Spot S light sports rotating and indexing prism effects and a zoom range from 35 degrees down to 8.5 degrees. It also features 1 aerial wheel, 7 gobos + open, as well as one break-up wheel, 7 gobos + open. Focus, iris and dimmer also come standard, as does mechanical and electronic strobe (zap effect), and synchronized, random, pulse effect.

With so much more than just superior brightness to their name, Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights sport a ground breaking new color mix system able to achieve CMY and RGB colors (CMY-s, patent pending). There's also an effects wheel for creating texture and aerial effects with wash light (patent pending), as well as a beam shaper rotating and indexing at 360 degrees (patent pending).

VH1 Production designer Star Kahn worked closely with ES Devlin and shaped it into a TV friendly set

One thing's for certain: Like GRAMMY winner Kanye West, Coemar Infinity ACL and Wash XL lights eschew tradition with major tenacity. "People were very impressed with their output," remarks Kenny. "This was a great show for lighting, and the Coemar Infinitys really nailed it!"
