Bob Peterson Creates Magic for CMT Award Show with Bandit

cmt-awards-show.jpgRenowned lighting designer Bob Peterson was engaged by CMT to deliver his usual magic for their 2011 Artist of the Year television show. Filmed at the Gaylord Arena in Nashville on November 29th, it aired on December 13th. The show was one of the year's most prestigious as it honored Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift. This heavy weight collection of entertainers has set every type of record imaginable in the last year, and together accounted for millions of ticket and record sales.

The show needed a true artist to handle the illumination needs and Bob Peterson was a perfect choice. Peterson has long been known for his work in television, special events and live shows, and he delivered one of the most stunning shows of the year. While the honored artists were on the show, the supporting cast was equally impressive. This group included host Rob Lowe, The All American Rejects, Avett Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Ellen DeGeneres, Gavin DeGraw, Jeff Gordon, Faith Hill, Tony La Russa, Miranda Lambert, Matthew McConaughey, Sean Peyton, Lionel Richie, William Shatner and Joe Walsh.

Peterson's lighting team included Monica Rose, Mark Butts, Ken Hudson, John Lucksinger, Sam Morgan, Scott Sepe and Ben Ryle. This very creative team worked tirelessly with Peterson to deliver the historical show. A wide variety of fixtures were called into play by Peterson to create many unique looks for the evening. For the hard edge effects, Peterson relied on the tried and true VL 3500, VL 3500 and VL 2500. For the warm incandescent touch, the Coemar Halos was utilized. A very rich, heavy wash was created by a huge number of Martin MAC 101's and GLP Volkslichts, as well as Pixilines and GRN Washes. The three unique types of illumination sources provide the team with endless possibilities to create multiple looks. The show was controlled on 2 Grand MA consoles with Hippo Green Hippotizers controlling all of the digital media. Lycian 1271's and M2's were the spotlight of choice at the event. The show was a complete spectacular, and has been hailed as one of the year's best! The art created by Peterson and his team was as visually exciting as the talented cast.

Bandit Lites Vice President Michael Golden handled the details for Peterson and enjoyed working with Peterson as always. Golden said, “Bob is a true genius, and a pleasure to work with. He is an artisan and knows his craft very well. I look forward to each and every opportunity we have to work with Bob and his team.”
