Leading European flightcase manufacturer, 5 Star Cases, celebrating its 30th anniversary year in 2011, enjoyed another very busy PLASA Light & Sound Show at Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London.

5 Star's MD Keith Sykes says, "All our shown products were well received, and we received plenty of inquiries as well as finalising some deals during the four days. PLASA is definitely the UK's premier entertainment technology trade show, and once again we saw a good cross section of new contacts as well as existing clients, and generally experienced high visitor quality".

On display was a selection of 5 Star's custom designed and standard case ranges, including a special edition ‘Eurotrucker' road trunk, featuring an eye-catching digitally printed 'wrap', which was applied to the exterior and visible on all sides including the bottom.

The stylish graphics were produced by 5 Star's design team, and shaped and fitted to the case using the same CAD data information as used in its construction. This was imported into image editing software to produce the subtle but striking graphic images.

The high resolution image was then sent to a specialist printer and vinyl ‘wrap' company, who produced the individual laminated graphic panels, which were then applied to the carcass of the case.

5 Star completed ‘fitting up' the case in the normal way, enclosing the graphics under the relevant aluminium profiles and adding the case furniture and finishings.

This type of specialist ‘wrapped' case is becoming popular for marketing and promotional events, exhibitions and POS (point of sale) applications. It attracted intense interest at PLASA, drawing many people onto the stand.

The Eurotrucker series of cases is one of 5 Star's most universally popular. Like all 5 Star products, it is renowned for its robust build quality, precision engineering and being manufactured wholly in the UK.

Also highlighted at the exhibition was a new ‘rolling' version of the popular DiGiCo SD11 sound console case revealed by 5 Star earlier in the year. Featuring a fixed (as opposed to tilting) mixer layout but still incorporating the hugely successful integral LED lighting technology, this version of the case will run alongside the existing SD11 'tilting' cases, produced exclusively by 5 Star for the leading audio brand.

Integrating the LEDs into the case design was a 'finishing touch' idea from 5 Star reflecting the premium quality of both the console and the case concepts, adding real flair. The lighting consists of two strips of multi-point, high-brightness white LEDs, sourced by 5 Star and flush mounted into slots in each of the 19” rack support cheeks. They are connected directly to the SD11's internal light supply, which can be dimmed from the console. The LEDs cast a smooth, even illumination across the whole console, whilst not causing any glare on its 15” screen.
