Medialon At Australian Football League Hall of Fame

Medialon Manager is proving to be a key member of the team at the Australian Football League (AFL) Hall of Fame in Melbourne where Interactive Control Pty., on behalf of Mal Padgett design, completed a show and device control system for The AFL Adventure.

Through a series of interactive exhibits and automated theaters, The AFL Adventure lets visitors experience what it’s like to be part of a Grand Final team. The installation takes them from the Locker Room moments after their win in the Preliminary Final through each day of Grand Final Week. A succession of plasma screens guides visitors from Monday to Friday through training sessions, cultural activities, media events and a parade. Visitors can Kick for Goal choosing from among historic shots and putting boot to ball; they can also put their reflexes to the test in a series of Hand Skills drills. Additional audio and video components include famous speeches and vintage game clips.

“The main challenge of the installation was to automate the flow of guests through the experience while allowing them enjoy the associated interactive experiences,” comments Dean Stevenson of Interactive Control Pty. From a single point Medialon Manager V3 Pro controls all 20 areas of the museum encompassing the installation. In excess of 105 distributed com ports, via Moxa TCPIP serial converters, are on a single network.

Medialon Manager controls a wide array of hardware and software for the installation, including Dataton Watchout 2x5 screen theaters, NEC data projectors, Samsung and NEC plasma screens, Pioneer 7300 DVD players, mechanical doors, Worldnet interactive game systems, Dynet lighting systems and ME Designs power controllers.

“Medialon Manager Pro’s power and flexibility was an invaluable tool in the design and programming of the system,. The Hall of Fame is very complex—with over 20 individual areas, ranging from synchronized DVD players to the monitoring of PLC based ball handling skills, to two fully-automated five- screen Dataton Watchout Theatres with automated entry and exit doors with holding areas—and Medialon handles it beautifully,” adds Stevenson.
